GLSEN conducts extensive and original research to inform evidence-based solutions for K-12 education. They author developmentally appropriate resources for educators to use throughout their school community and they advise on, advocate for, and research comprehensive policies designed to protect LGBTQ students as well as students of marginalized identities. They have brought record support to the Safe Schools Improvement Act and the Student Non-Discrimination Act and fought discriminatory legislation in over 15 states. They coordinate a network of 43 chapters in 30 states across the nation, to ensure that they have access to schools and districts across the country to reach every student. GLSEN empowers students to affect change by supporting student-led efforts to positively impact their own schools and local communities, and have thousands of registered GSAs nationwide. GLSEN’s national network is more than 1.5 million strong, with students, families, educators, and education advocates working to create safe schools. More than 500,000 GLSEN resources are downloaded by students and educators each year. Every day GLSEN works to ensure that LGBTQ students are able to learn and grow in a school environment free from bullying and harassment. That is QUITE a record! Go GLSEN!
TOOLS, RESOURCES AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
On October 7, 1998 Matthew Shepard, a 21-year old student was brutally attacked and tied to a fence in a field outside Laramie, Wyoming and left to die. In the aftermath of Matt’s death his parents started the Matthew Shepard foundation to honor his life and aspirations. The initial purpose was to teach parents with questioning children to love and accept them for who they are. The Matthew Shepard Foundation’s mission is to amplify the story of Matthew Shepard to inspire individuals, organizations and communities to embrace the dignity and equality of all people. Their work is an extension of Matt’s passion to foster a more caring and just world.
EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITES
The National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) is the first national LGBTQ legal organization founded by women and brings a fierce, longstanding commitment to racial and economic justice and our community’s most vulnerable. Since 1977, NCLR has been at the forefront of advancing the civil and human rights of our full LGBTQ community and their families through impact litigation, public policy, and public education. Decades ago, NCLR led the way by establishing the first LGBTQ Immigration Project, Transgender Rights Project, Youth Project, Elder Law Project, and began working to end conversion therapy through what is now the Born Perfect campaign.
VOLUNTEER, SUPPORT AND EDUCAITONAL RESOURCES
Through community organizing, education, policy and research, the Community Organizing and Public Advocacy (COPA) Department works towards shifting policy, building power of community members and responding to incidents of anti-LGBTQ violence in order to create systemic change in people’s lives.

These barriers must go. That’s why the Task Force is training and mobilizing millions of activists across our nation to deliver a world where you can be you. Join them!
